it has been a while...

We are still alive.  We're married now, but things haven't changed.  I am going to start posting deals and other random things I come across to make this a true blog

Most of you know I have started couponing and it's really saved us for money, so I thought I could try to help my other friends out.

Number one thing to do in the grocery store:
Shop clearance first. You'l find a lot of delicious bakery breads, and great deals on other things like soups and cereals. If the box is banged up it doesn't mean it's bad, it means it will go to clearance and their loss is your gain.

Pricematch and do homework, and we'll start an adventure of saving money together.

8/180

Today I started my extern ship at Cope Family Practice in Bountiful, Utah.  I was very nervous at first to start there, but after I go there everyone was very friendly and nice.

I got to do some interesting procedures today.  I got to give a flu shot, do a well-child checkup, heights, weights, and temperatures.  I also got to to be a chaperon for quite a few ladies who were having annual Pap smears and other gynecologic exams.  What a wonderful learning experience I am having.

In order to graduate, I am required to complete 180 hours of an unpaid extern ship. I am 8 hours down and 172 to go.

Until later friends.

ENGAGED!! pt 2

So there I was, sitting down at this beautiful meal.  Ivan smiled at me and I was so excited that we were in the exact spot I had wanted to go on our special date.

It was then that he revealed to me that the meeting with the University of Utah was a lie to get this whole dinner set up and that he'd been planning this for two weeks. He told me about Dianna and about his friend Angela.  I cried because I was so emotional for everything that he had done for me.  He was so thoughtful. Then we ate lasagna and fettuccine alfredo from The Garden and were so happy to be there.

Angela, bless her heart, came into get our plates and to ask us how our meal was.  She also brought us an amazing dessert.  Thanks Angela!  We love you!

Then she asked something Ivan wasn't expecting,  "So where's the ring?" she said.

When she said that, I thought that maybe he was supposed to propose to me today but he interrupted and (I thought he lost it.  That's what he told me at least. He was so smooth.) said, "I lost it. We're waiting for the ring from her mom. Her mom is giving her a ring and we're going to take the diamond out of it and put it in another band.  I haven't been to Elko yet to get it."  This is the true story.  And this is how he tricked me.

Before, I was talking with Angela and I told her that I wanted to proposed to Jane on that Wednesday but I forgot to tell her that it was a surprise at the end of the date.  I didn't give her all of the details. So when she started to ask about the ring, I tried to say a different story so Jane didn't know what was going to happen later.

You see, we had gotten a ring earlier - just for fun, sort of - that is HUGE. I love it, but my mom's is sentimental to me and I wanted to have it instead.

Okay so back to the story.  After the dessert was out, we began taking pictures of the temple.  We were up on the 9th floor and it was the perfect view for it!  While I was taking pictures...

I told Jane, "Let's take some pictures," to distract her. She was taking pictures of the temple, and I got my phone and started to take pictures of her taking pictures.  So I walked behind her and was talking to her at the same time.  When I got close to the table, I grabbed the little red and white box from underneath the table.  I opened it while I was talking to her and I walked behind her and kneeled.
"Jane," I said, "I don't know if this is the right time to say this, (Jane turned around) but WILL YOU MARRY ME!"

I turned around and he was on one knee.  I gasped, "No! Are you serious!?"  I looked over at the ring. The one he said he had lost. It was in a little red and white box that he had carefully picked out.

"Jane, I'm serious!" he said.  Then, with tears in my eyes and with all of my love I said YES!

The end.

I don't remember what happened then.  I laughed. I cried. It's all a blur.

But Ivan had enough sense to still have the camcorder on.  Maybe we'll play it at our reception.

PART THREE... Coming Soon!!

ENGAGED!! pt 1

We know you've all been waiting for it.... So here it is!

The Engagement Story

March 05, 2011

"You need to get Wednesday, March 9 off," he said to me.  "Get it off so we can go on a date for once."

"Okay, where are we going?"  I asked inquisitively.  We hardly ever go on dates because we are both so busy.  Without inquiring any more, I traded with a coworker to have Wednesday off.

"Where would you like to go?" he asked me.

I thought about it for about a millisecond and said, "I'd like to go to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building."

"No," was his response. "It's too expensive. How about Olive Garden?" He knows that I love Olive Garden and there's one very close to our school downtown in Salt Lake.  I was a little disappointed, but I didn't think about it much. Instead, I just went with his idea and was excited we were actually going to go out on a date.

March 06, 2011

Ivan and I went to my ward together. While in sacrament meeting, we sat by a member of the Relief Society.  She was sitting next to her "boyfriend" when I saw a giant rock on her left hand. I asked her if she was engaged and she responded that she was.  I was a little jealous because this couple had been dating for a shorter time than we had!

He quickly gave some excuses and changed the subject.

This is Ivan.  I'm interjecting at this point to say that I had been planning to propose for two weeks.  In fact, the Friday before I had it all planned out. I was waiting for the right time.  She almost ruined the surprise by asking too many questions.  Every time she asked about it I quickly changed the subject to keep her guessing.

March 09, 2011

We had a really busy morning with classes and I had a meeting with my LDS bishop (he's kind of like a pastor).   Ivan told me that our teacher, Dianna Killpack, had set him with an interview at a University of Utah clinic.  He showed me a paper of the address and the interviewer's phone number written by Dianna.  He was to go to the interview at the U from 3:30-4:30.

I had to make up a story for Jane so that she would let me go to prepare everything for the proposal.  At first, I told her I had to change my clothes.  She told me no because then she would have to change her clothes too, and she didn't want to travel back to her home to change. Then I was thinking about how I could get away for a while to prepare.  Then I went to talk with Dianna and cooked up a plan that she would write me a note saying that I had an interview at the U between 3:30-4:30. I was so grateful for Dianna.

After I gave the note to Jane, I ran to the place to set up the table for the proposal and called Louisa to go and pick her up.

After my meeting with the bishop, I waited for Ivan at the library where he was supposed to pick me up at 4:30. Pretty soon, I felt a cold hand on my arm.  I turned around and saw my roommate Louisa.  It was such a shock because she doesn't go to school here and I never see her anywhere besides at home!  She told me to come with her.  The first thing I asked her was, "Are we evicted?!"  She responded with a quick No and told me to come with her.

She put a blindfold on me and then she led me out to her car; we drove around a for a while. I had no idea where we were or where we were going.

In the meantime, while Louisa was driving Jane to the destination point, I was setting up the table with Angela, the manager of events at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We were on the 9th floor in the Kirtland Room. Angela and I had to move all the tables from the last reception there to clear the room and set up a special table.

I thought everything out. I set up the camcorder to record everything.  I had Angela bring candles, flowers, and dinner for the two of us. Angela also made us a CD of romantic music to play in the background. Even though I knew Jane would say "Yes," I was so nervous.  When everything was ready I sent a text message to Louisa.

Louisa brought me to a room in the 9th floor (at this point I was still blindfolded and didn't know where we were) and told me she needed to use the restroom. Then she went to go to the restroom.... Or so I thought.

Louisa lied to Jane and came to find me instead. We made a plan to take Jane to the table and to take off the blindfold. Louisa went out to Jane and took her to the Kirtland room and she sat down at the table and started to take off the blindfold.

When I opened my eyes, Ivan was there in front of me!  We were there in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building with a candlelit table set for two.  It was perfect!

BUT THAT'S NOT THE END OF THE STORY!!!

February: Love

Well hi there everyone.  It's been awhile since I blogged (again).  It's hard to find things to blog about.

It's been an interesting winter.  There's been storms one minute and springlike weather the next.

I moved apartments again.  My landlord took the bed I was sleeping in, so Ivan and I went to pack up all of my things late one night and left with only 20 minutes notice.  I now live in another apartment, with a nice roommate. Things are looking good now.  only a few months left.

Today I called somewhere to start an internship there.  It didn't work out so now I've got to start looking for another place to intern.  It's okay, I'm sure I'll find something!

Well, friends, that's all for now.

Winter Semester 2011

Hello all!

Ivan and I are sitting in the University of Utah Library tonight studying.  Actually, he's applying for a scholarship, and I've just finished taking a test (88.75% if you wanted to know).  This is my first time in this library, but it's Ivan's favorite after-school hangout.  The Marriot Library is open until 2:00 am most nights, so it's a good spot to come and study!

This will be our third week of the semester and things are going really well so far.  Ivan has perfect scores and I am doing my best too.  Both of us are working and doing great!

Here are some pictures of us at school with the big poster behind us.  We were finished with our first Monday evening class!

This guy is so funny!

President Richards, the President of LDSBC, and I after his devotional.  He's a wonderful speaker!

Here is Pres. Richards with Ivan.  Looking good, guys!

We have been busy for the start of the semester, but this is my last at the LDSBC so I'm going to push myself as hard as I can!  Ivan always works hard, but he's especially working hard this semester for his goal of a 4.0.  I know he can do it!

The other day, I was adventurous and bought my very first Groupon.  I was so excited because it was for a Peruvian restaurant located in Sandy.  The name is El Inti and the business has been around for about four months.  The food was delicious and the service was wonderful.  I also have to mention that they have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu listed, which was such a wonderful change for me.  That's one of the main reasons that I purchased the Groupon, because they mentioned it in the ad.  I was excited  to not have to question whether what I was eating was vegan.

I ordered Lomo Saltado (with zuccini instead of steak).  This was only my second attempt at eating Peruvian food.  It was sooo good.  I highly recommend it.  Ivan ordered Seco.   This was also very good.

Pictures to come soon.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Happy New Year 2011!!

Hello friends!

First, allow us to introduce ourselves.  We are Ivan from Peru and Jane from Nevada.  As a New Year's Resolution, we both wanted to journal more and we decided to start a blog.  We wanted to share our lives through this blog and to help our friends and family know what is going on in our lives!  Hopefully, we will be able to learn a few things about ourselves and each other as we look back on this blog.

It all started at summer semester at LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah, where we both are attending classes.  We were both taking a typing class.  We didn't think that there would be time to meet anyone special in that class because we were just being graded on our typing.  Everyone in the class was focused on typing quickly to earn a good score.  Jane is a "front of the class" type of person.  Ivan is not.

One day, Jane was getting ready to go to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and wore her work uniform to school.  Ivan noticed her in the front of the class and came to ask her where she worked. (By the way, this is Jane speaking.)  Ivan came up to Jane and was speaking in Spanish.  She just stared at him because she doesn't speak Spanish.  Then they discovered they were in the same program, Medical Assisting, at the college.  Jane and Ivan decided to drive to her work so that he could pick up an application for employment so they walked and made it to the first floor when Jane realized she forgot her packed lunch.  Ivan ran up seven flights of stairs to pick up the blue lunch bag and ran down the stairs to give it back.  Then they drove to work.

It was the beginning of a great thing.

During the ride, they got to know each other very well (It's a twenty minute drive.).  They came from similar backgrounds. After that they realized that they were perfect for each other. At that time, Ivan was living in Provo on the weekends and they met each other on a Wednesday.   They exchanged phone numbers like usual.  On Sunday Jane drove to Provo to visit Ivan because he promised her that he would cook traditional Peruvian food.  Ivan couldn't believe that she actually would drive to Provo to visit him!
Jane arrived early to Provo in order to attend the Spanish Ward with Ivan. After church they went to Ivan's brother's house and make steak and chicken. After that they watched music videos and had a wonderful time together.  :)

That was just the beginning.

until later....
